1. Build a strong relationship with your recruiter
Often recruiters get a bad wrap, but we’re not all the same. Invest the time to get to know your recruiter. They are your eyes and ears into the market and the first to know what’s happening. Be open with them and don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter questions about the opportunities. A good recruiter will be able to share their insight about the job and the company. A strong relationship will mean that you will be one of the first on their mind as soon as they have exciting job opportunities.
2. Provide project details in your CV
Besides your day-to-day responsibilities, hiring manager are often interested to hear about the projects you have been involved with. It’s important to write about the project overview, your input and state the impact to the business so you can show the tangible results.
3. Always ask questions at an interview
Interviews are a 2-way process. It’s also an opportunity for you to assess whether it’s the right fit for you. Asking the right questions will demonstrate a level of interest and motivation for the job. Prepare questions before the interview and research what the company has been up to so you can ask meaningful questions.
4. Know where your CV is going
This is vital. Always ask your recruiter who they are representing you to. Often vacancies are worked on by multiple recruiters and it is in your best interest to avoid any mix-ups by taking control of the situation. If the recruiter is reluctant to tell you where your CV is going, politely decline and insist. How and where you are represented to is very important, and a reputable recruiter will always be open with you and act in your best interest.
