Our client is a well known General Contractor who specialize in Heavy Civil and ICI construction, with office locations in Ontario and British Columbia. They can self perform their own work (civil, mechanical, electrical) or act as construction managers, and their diverse construction capabilities really can be tailored to match a client's project requirements and location.

Due to a number of recent project wins across Transportation Buildings and Wastewater they are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join their team in Ontario. 

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist Site Supervisor in the planning and direction of construction activities.
  • Develop, with the involvement of the Preconstruction Department, the project budget and work breakdown structure enabling the identification of responsibility and costs through a cost code system.
  • Work with the Scheduling Department and the Site Supervisor to develop the project schedule to allow for progress measurement and identifying priorities that will affect the schedule. Ensures the project schedule is updated at least monthly.
  • Work with the Preconstruction Department to identify the terms and scope of work for subcontract and supplier packages.
  • Establish the project billing breakdown for submission to Owner for review. Prepares monthly billing applications to the Owner and expedites approval of the billing application and invoicing. Collects overdue payments from Owner.
  • Review and approve all subcontractor and supplier monthly payment applications prepared jointly with the Project Administrator.
  • Represent at site meetings with the Owner and Consultants and ensures all correspondence from the Owner and Consultants receives prompt attention.
  • Provide a monthly job costing summary, identifying variances to budget, changes to work, unit rates, usage of cash allowances, internal costs and potential claims and liabilities. Prepares a monthly cash flow projection and report on variances to the baseline schedule. Establishes, with Accounting, specific cost control measures and produces timely cost reports to management.
  • Receive CCN’s from Owner, calculates the price, issues CCN’s to subcontractors, and submits quotations for approval. Upon approval, reviews and authorizes Change Orders from Owner and directs the issuance of Change Orders to subcontractors. Maintains and updates the Additional Work Log and Jonas.
  • Assume full responsibility for conformance to the plans, specifications and coordination with the schedule. Provides direction as necessary, to support the Project Coordinator during shop drawing and equipment reviews.
  • Establish and communicates as necessary unique administrative procedures such as certified payroll collection and submission.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior project staff.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the prompt and complete Close Out of projects, including finalizing all owner / subcontractor / supplier issues, completion of deficiencies, submission of final documentation, attaining Total Performance and preparation / presentation of Post Project Evaluation.
Education & Skill Requirements
  • CET or P.Eng
  • Minimum 10+ years of Construction Management experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years as a Project Manager, having completed relevant projects in the price range of over 20 Million
  • Worked with companies in the past that self performed their own work is an asset.
  • Design Build experience also an asset.
  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Highly proficient communicator (both verbal/written)
  • Possess demonstrable problem solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
